childTruancy Prevention and Intervention

The Truancy Prevention Program is a case-management process serving as a short-term collaboration between Northern Home, the Regional Truancy Courts, schools and families. This collective effort assists the family in supporting the child’s growth and development while promoting school attendance. Referrals are only accepted through the Office of Truancy and Delinquency Prevention of the Department of Human Services.

After School Initiative at the Leslie Pinckney Hill School

The After School Program (ASI) provides each child a fun, safe and supportive environment after school. The program provides a range of activities to children and youth including academic enrichment and homework assistance, structured physical activities, service learning such as community service projects and events, and enrichment activities such as art, sports and mentoring. During the summer months, the After School Program provides summer camp for the children. The ASI also provides resources for families including a food bank and LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program). The hours of operation of the ASI are 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

EPIC Stakeholders (Equal Partners in Change)

In an effort to improve the well-being of the Central North section of Philadelphia, our community collaborator holds monthly stakeholder meetings. Quarterly outreach activities and training sessions are held as well. The collaborator works to develop positive relationships with individuals, families, and the entire community. As part of EPIC, Northern Home for Children coordinates block and community-based meetings as well as community-wide programs and events. The EPIC stakeholders theme is “We can, We will and We are making a difference”.

RETI-WRAP

(Re-entry Transition Initiative) Program supports youth returning from placement to assist them and promote a successful return to school and community. Reti-Wrap staff are full-time collaborators who support the efforts of the Department of Human Services and Family Court to reintegrate youth returning from delinquent placement back into the School District of Philadelphia. The staff is the primary liaison between the DHS-funded reintegration network and the School District’s Reti-Wrap Program. They are responsible for facilitating the full participation of reintegration workers and youth and their families in this process.

School Based Social Service

School Based Social Service (SBSS) goal is to assist schools in providing designated students and families with effective linkages (behavioral health services, extra circular activities, social skill groups, capacity building) as well as assist with schools in the School District of Philadelphia when a crisis arises. The SBSS program employs Resource Specialist to provide school based case management services currently in 30 schools who also serve as a liaison between the school, community and family. School District of Philadelphia is the funding source.
