Based Truancy Specialist (CBTS)
Summary:
The Community Based Truancy Specialist (CBTS) primary focus
is to increase school attendance and reduce truancy. Under
the supervision of the Truancy Supervisor, the CBTS, in
partnership with the family, will facilitate the development
of positive relationships that students and families require,
to receive the support to develop their assets and skills
and address the challenges they are currently facing to
achieve their goals. The CBTS will provide strengths-based
case management to students and families referred by the
Regional Truancy Court. Strengths-based case management
is a client-driven modality that stresses individual assets
that can be harnessed to discover and develop their skills
and resources needed to address challenges families face.
This program is designed to organize, coordinate and facilitate
the delivery of family focused community based support services.
Responsibilities include attending monthly truancy court
hearings; PATCH, community meetings, home and school visits
and facilitating the development of positive relationships
with individuals, families and the community.
Qualifications:
Basic Skill Sets:
- Ability to work independently, to meet specific goals
and multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal
skills
- Ability to read and understand complex instructions
such as regulatory policies.
- Ability to define problems, collects data, establish
facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from other groups.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary environments.
- Working understanding of child and family development.
- Working knowledge of computers and pertinent software
programs.
Education: Minimum- Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years experience facilitating community-based,
family support activities.
- Experience working is a school setting.
- Ability to navigate multiple systems.
Special Skills:
- Ability to walk up and down stairs
- Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds.
- Ability to operate a calculator and computer.
- Current valid driver’s license and the willingness
to drive as needed.
- Requires flexible work schedule, evening and weekend
hours.
