Capital Campaign Phase II
Hartley Hall Renovation
Total Cost: $1,200,000
Phase II of our Capital Campaign involves the substantial
rehabilitation of Hartley Hall, the building that juxtaposes
the new Caroline Alexander Buck Residence Hall.
The rehabilitation of Hartley Hall will provide the second
phase of our Generations Program. Hartley will house young
mothers, ages 18-21 with no more than two children, who are
homeless and are residents of Philadelphia. The women are
primarily current or former consumers of the child welfare
system who are aging out of foster care or have been asked
to leave their homes of origin or residential placements.
The proposed facility will be a two-story, 6,000 square foot
structure, comprising 8 two-bedroom units. Every two living
units (1 bedroom for mother and 1 bedroom for child/ren) will
share a common "great room" which will have a living/dining
area, a kitchen and a bathroom.
Clients in the Generations Program are referred by the Department
of Human Services who collaborate with Northern Home to select
residents appropriate for the program.
The total cost of Phase II is $1.2 million. To date 93% of
the funds needed have been raised. On December 22, 2005, Northern
Home was awarded a 2005 Continuum of Care Award from the Federation
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City of Philadelphia
has committed HOME funds to allow us to undertake and complete
this project. Private foundation grants have also been secured
and construction is due to begin in the late fall, 2006.
